The Viking Yearbook – 1927

We played Gregory Terrace on their ground on August 13. The match resulted in a win for them by 17-0. A strong wind was blowing down the field, and they had the first use of it. Moloney opened the score by kicking a goal from a free kick.

Shortly afterwards he received a kick from the full back, gathered it well, and ran about three quarters of the length of the field to score between the posts. He converted his own try. This made the scores 7-0 in their favour, and thus they remained till half time.

Just after resuming Luya, running with the ball, was tackled, and came down very heavily, breaking his collar bone. He had to be taken to the hospital by the ambulance. This necessitated our playing with five forwards, and we did not get much of the ball. Our backs repeatedly broke through, but were not fast enough to finish off the movements.

Moloney’s pace again beat our backs, and he scored with ease between the posts for an easy goal. From all the subsequent kick off Clarke received and started a passing movement, which completely bamboozled our forwards and backs, and Dempsey scored. Moloney converted, making the scores 17-0 in their favour. Thus they remained till the final whistle.
